Donating €5,000 to Malta Community Chest Fund

2010 was relatively a year of celebration for this DMC, with organising the largest conference to ever be held in Malta; the Oriflame Gold Conference, which saw 4,200 delegates on a 6 day conference on the islands, to celebrating the 10th anniversary of the agency’s operations.

The end of November saw the company completing their very successful end of year, with a donation to the Malta Community Chest Fund, making it truly a year to remember.

Paul Selis, director of On Site Malta remarked that there is nothing better than giving back and what better way to do so than by giving a helping hand to Malta’s largest Charity Organisation that helps so many people and other organisations throughout the year.

As part of its efforts towards Corporate Social Responsibility, On Site Malta has embarked on a new initiative, which will see a donation of Eur1.00 for every delegate attending a Conference or Incentive through the company.

‘The size and magnitude of the Oriflame Gold Conference has generated a considerable amount of work from different areas and industries in the Maltese Islands – naturally we couldn’t have a better platform from where to launch this new initiative’, said Selis.

To commemorate the start of this yearly initiative, Paul Selis and the whole team at On Site Malta met His Excellency, the President of Malta, Dr. George Abela, on Monday 22nd November 2010, at The Palace in Valletta. Together they presented him with a cheque of €5,000, which is the rounded figure of delegates that participated in the Oriflame Gold Conference in the Summer of 2010, in aid of The Malta Community Chest Fund.

Oriflame
Swedish cosmetics giant Oriflame has opted for Malta to host its 2010 Gold Conference.

The destination was awarded the event after a last-minute bid from Maltese DMC On Site Malta. The conference, being held between August 29 and September 4, will be the largest business event ever held on the island, with more than 5,000 delegates staying in 13 hotels in St Julians, Valletta and Attard. The event will be held at the Granaries Square in Floriana, which is known for hosting the Isle of MTV festivals.  Oriflame hosts regular incentives to reward sales efforts. Its annual conference is held in a Mediterranean country each year, with previous destinations including Barcelona and Athens. On Site Malta director Paul Selis said: “Competitiveness in destination management is getting fiercer, especially because of the recession. Last year a representative of Oriflame Cosmetics asked On Site Malta to quote for the conference, and although we were late to bid, we thought that it was a good exercise to measure whether Malta is able to host such a conference.”
Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, Mario de Marco, said the appointment was a positive step after a tough 2009 for the industry, with the conference and incentive sector hit particularly hard. “This means up to 35,000 bed nights for Malta,” he said. “It is a boost to our tourism industry, in particular the conference and incentive segment.”
